I am not supposed to be like anyone else
I am unique
Significant
I am not invisible
Though sometimes society makes me feel that way
Social media says I should look like them
My mother says I’m beautiful just the way I am
I see people literally dying from injections
In search of a tainted version of perfection
At war with their reflections
Transforming themselves physically in response to rejection
Not realizing the media’s idea of beauty is unrealistic
They cover up flaws & seduce you into thinking the world is perfect
Unfortunately, you can’t air brush character
Or put make up over a selfish spirit
Botox can’t prevent your lips from speaking evil
And Photoshop can’t make you a better individual
Beauty is not physical, it is a state of mind
The most beautiful faces can quickly turn ugly if the spirit attached is unkind
I didn’t choose the skin I’m in
But I do have a choice to be happy in it
To love myself unconditionally
Whether you tell me I’m beautiful or not
I may never fit into what the world views as beautiful
But I know my creator never makes mistakes
So I tell myself I’m beautiful everyday
Because my self-love is something you can never take away
